The Medical University of Vienna (Medizinische Universität Wien: MUW), the former Medical School of the University of Vienna, became an independent University in 2004. It is organized in 11 theoretical departments and 33 clinical departments, and jointly operates the General Hospital of Vienna in cooperation with the City of Vienna.

The work on the FUN OCT project is to be carried out at the Medical Physics Division of the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Physics, clinical measurements are planned in cooperation with the Department of Ophthalmology of the MUW.

The Medical Physics Division has a long history of research in the fields of low coherence interferometry (LCI) and optical coherence tomography. Researchers at this institution were the worldwide pioneers of LCI ranging in biologic tissue (since 1986) and were the first in Europe working in the field of OCT.


Role in FUN OCT


The main tasks of MUW-A will be the work on PS OCT where MUW-A is the work package leader.



People

Christoph K. Hitzenberger: Leader of MUW-A project team. Associate Professor of Medical Physics. Head of the OCT Diagnostics Group at Medical Physics Division. He works in the fields of LCI and OCT since 1987.


Michael Pircher: Assistant Professor. M. Pircher has acquired extensive knowledge on experimental and theoretic aspects of OCT imaging.
