Home page for the FUNOCT EU project
This is the official site for the Colloaborative Project Functional Optical Coherence Tomography with the acronym FUN OCT funded under the EU framework-7 Health programme. The project started April 2008 and runs until April 2012. This site provides all public information that will be generated during the project. |
Objectives and main target
The main objective of FUN OCT is to expand state-of-the-art OCT medical imaging capabilities to include depth resolved functional information, i.e., forming a novel, powerful medical imaging platform, and to demonstrate its general feasibility in selected clinical applications that can contribute to the enhancement of quality of life and living conditions of the European aging population. |
Project Partners
The consortium includes 6 partners from 3 nations: Technical University of Denmark, Denmark (Coordinator) Universität zu Lübeck, Germany Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany Medizinische Universität Wien (Medical Physics Division), Austria Femtolasers Produktions GmbH, Austria JenLab GmbH, Germany ![]() |
Realisation
The creation of this medical imaging platform is realised through the development of optical ultra-broad bandwidth and ultrahigh speed tuneable light sources, optical, electronic, hard/soft-ware designs for functional OCT, delivery systems for the envisaged medical applications, and contrast agents to further enhance OCT tomogram contrast. These developments enable unique, three-dimensional, real time in situ functional imaging providing unprecedented depth resolved functional tissue information that is essential to significantly improve early cancer diagnosis (skin- bladder- lung-cancer) as well as detection of retinal pathologies such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma that are worldwide leading causes for blindness. |
